
Making Your Bathroom Mirror Actually Warm
Nobody likes that bracing shock of a cold bathroom on a Tuesday morning. You know the feeling—stepping out of a warm shower only to hit a wall of freezing air. That’s why we use short-wave infrared for our mirror heaters. Instead of trying to warm up the entire room (which takes forever), these heaters go straight for you. It’s radiant heat. It hits your skin and the surfaces around you immediately. No waiting around. Just warmth.
Why it feels instant
We use halogen-filled quartz tubes because they don’t mess around. They hit their peak temperature in a few seconds. If you hook these up to a smart relay or a Zigbee switch, the heat is there the moment you hit “On.” There’s no clunky heat exchanger that needs to warm up first. The power hits the filament, and you feel the heat almost instantly. It’s like a little slice of spring in the middle of January.
Making it “Smart”
The real magic happens when you put these on a schedule. Imagine your bathroom is already cozy five minutes before you even walk through the door. You can set that up through your smart hub easily. We usually suggest using 4K or 16A smart relays just to make sure they can handle that first burst of power. And here is a pro tip: link your heater to a humidity sensor. The second your shower starts and the room gets steamy, the system can kick in. It clears the fog off the mirror and keeps the air from getting chilly while you’re getting ready.
A few things to watch out for
Since these heaters pack a lot of punch into a small space, you have to be mindful of your wiring. These things pull a decent amount of power. If you’re putting a few of them in one bathroom, keep an eye on your circuit breaker. If you load up too many 800W-1200W lamps on one line, you’re probably going to trip the breaker. To keep things running smooth and keep the lamps bright, we usually recommend a dedicated line for high-output setups. It just saves you the headache of voltage drops or flickering lights.
