
Making Recessed Bathroom Heaters Easier on the Eyes
Most bathroom infrared lamps use short-wave radiation. It’s great for that “instant heat” feeling the second you step out of the shower, but there’s a catch: the glare. That bright, blinding light can be a lot to handle, especially if you’ve got a baby in the room. We figured out a way to fix that by tweaking how the quartz tube actually emits light. Dealing with the glare The goal was simple: keep the heat, lose the blinding light. We use special coatings or “doped” quartz glass that act like a filter. They basically block out the harsh, high-energy visible light but let the infrared heat slide right through. Instead of a bright white flash, you get a soft, warm glow. It feels much more natural and doesn’t strain your eyes. The nitty-gritty stuff These units plug right into your home’s standard voltage. We’ve tuned the filaments to fit perfectly inside a recessed ceiling fixture, usually landing somewhere between 250W and 600W. That’s the sweet spot for warming up a small bathroom without overdoing it. We also use high-purity quartz so the tubes stay clear and don’t get cloudy over time. Putting it in and what to watch for We designed these to be drop-in replacements, so they fit into standard housings without a fuss. The heat goes straight down. One quick tip: make sure your ceiling has some breathing room. If you pack the area around the fixture too tight with insulation, the wiring can get too hot. Just give it a little space to vent. Now, here’s the honest part. Because we use that “eye-safe” coating, you lose a tiny bit of raw heating power—maybe 5-10% compared to those clear, industrial-strength lamps. But in a home bathroom? You won’t even notice the difference. The peace of mind knowing it’s safe for your kids is worth way more than a couple of degrees of extra heat.
