
Keeping Things Warm (and Safe) with IP55 Infrared Heaters
When you’re heating up a bathroom or a nursery, you’re basically playing a balancing act. You want the room to get warm fast, but you can’t have a heater that’s so intense it hurts someone’s eyes. That’s why we use IP55-rated enclosures. In plain English? It keeps the dust and steam out of the guts of the machine so you don’t end up with a short circuit just because the shower was running. The “Blinding Light” Problem Ever looked at a standard infrared lamp and had to squint? That glare is intense. For a baby in a nursery, it’s way too much. We fixed this by messing with the light spectrum. We use specific quartz glass and some internal coatings to shift the light away from that bright, visible range. You still get all the heat you need to warm the room quickly, but without that annoying, blinding glow. It’s much easier on the eyes. Dealing with Water and Heat The IP55 rating is your safety net against water jets and dust. We seal everything up with high-temp gaskets so the wiring doesn’t corrode over time. One thing to keep in mind: the housing still gets hot. Even though the lamp is shielded, the chassis holds onto that heat. Just make sure whatever surface you’re mounting it to can handle a bit of a heat soak. The Trade-off Here’s the honest truth: those eye-protection coatings do take away a tiny bit of the raw heating power. You lose a small percentage of the “punch” compared to a bare quartz tube. But we found a workaround. We tweaked the shape of the reflector to focus the IR energy exactly where it needs to go. So, you get a softer light and a safer experience, but the room still feels cozy. One last tip on the install… Give this its own dedicated circuit. If you’re putting a few of these in one small area, keep an eye on your total amperage. You don’t want to trip the breaker the second you flip the switch.
